Years Custom Light

Our forests record history season by season, year by year. Our trees write the years in rings that speak of the forces of nature and the passage of time. Each tree’s account transports us back through the decades. 

Years is a light sculpture that imagines the history contained within a tree in a new way. Each ring of the tree becomes a layer, and the layers become topography. Every tree tells a different story and takes on it’s own unique form. 

A tree stump from any property could be chosen to provide the source information that the Years light sculpture is built from. The resulting light sculpture will be rich with the resonances of it’s place and the elemental factors that shaped it. Years will bring the heart of the forest into the home. 

The Years pendant is assembled from layers of red alder, the exterior surface coated with ebony milk paint then sealed with layers of linseed oil and beeswax.
